The wait for Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated single “Carolina” is almost over.
As Swifties will know, the singer revealed on her Instagram in March that she had written the song for the movie Where the Crawdads Sing, starring Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Her post included a snippet from the thriller’s trailer, set to “Carolina.” Sounds of a piano can be heard, along with lyrics including “You didn’t see me here,” “They never did see me here” and “There are places I will never, ever, go.”
Just three weeks before the movie’s premiere on Friday, July 15, Swift has announced the release date and time of “Carolina”—and fans cannot wait.
Newsweek has everything you need to know about the release of “Carolina” and the movie Where the Crawdads Sing, which is based on the novel of the same name by Delia Owens.
“Carolina” Release Date and Time

In her March Instagram post, Swift shared her admiration for Owens’ novel and for the adaptation’s star Edgar-Jones—as well as for Reese Witherspoon, who serves as a producer on the movie.
She also explained that she wrote the song alone and the track was produced by the National’s Aaron Dessner, who worked with Swift on her albums Folklore and Evermore.
Alongside the trailer, Swift wrote: “Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side. I wrote the song “Carolina” alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story.”
Owens’ bestselling debut novel follows the story of Kya, who was abandoned by her family as a young girl living among the North Carolina marshes.
Growing up isolated and alone in the 1950s, she meets local boy Tate Walker, who teaches her to read and write. Kya’s life changes in a way she could have never have imagined, but Tate then abandons her too. Later her boyfriend, Chase Andrews, is found dead and she stands accused of his murder.
Edgar-Jones—who played Marianne in Normal People and, most recently, Noa in Fresh—takes on the role of Katherine “Kya” Clarke. Tate is played by Taylor John Smith, best known for Sharp Objects and The Outpost.
Harris Dickinson, who appeared in The Souvenir: Part II, plays Chase.
