Elden Ring has tons of elements of surprise throughout the Lands Between. One of them is the Waygates, commonly known as Teleporters that transport to an unknown area, usually filled with high-level enemies. If you’re getting started with the game, follow this guide as we have created an ultimate list of every teleporter trap in Elden Ring and where they lead.
Now, Teleporters are of two types. One is a gateway that takes you to a whole new place and the other one is basically a trap which you will generally find in form of chests. These chests are usually located in underground ruins.
The easiest way to identify a gateway Teleporter is by the looks of it. They have a beam of light entering into a small loop-like structure and ask if you want to use the portal to get teleported to a new location. Whereas, the traps are in the chest boxes where a smoke emits when opened followed by a dialogue which says ensnared in a transporter trap. However, if you manage to dodge the smoke, you won’t get transported along with it.
Below is the list of every teleporter and trap in Elden Ring that you should know before interacting with them.

All Elden Ring Teleporter Trap Locations
- Dragon-Burnt Ruins
This trap is likely to be the first one you encounter as it is now too far from the First Steps. As said above, this trap is in the form of a chest located underground of the ruins which teleport you to the Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid. We advise you not to tackle the enemies, instead make your way out by using the nearest grace point.
- Murkwater Caves
The Murkwater Caves can be found in Limgrave, just near the place where you fight Bloody Finger Nerijus. Upon opening the chest, it takes you to the Minor Erdtree in the West Limgrave. This area doesn’t have any enemies, so, you can freely explore.
- Academy of Raya Lucaria
The Teleporter trap in this location is very important to discover as it leads to Volcano Manor which is not easily accessible. The trap in this location is not a chest but an Iron Maiden. Yes, in order to use the trap, let the Iron Maiden kill you and when resurrecting you will find yourself inside the Manor. Make sure to use the grace inside to unlock the area. This is the easiest way to make your way to the Volcano Manor and Mt. Gelmir if you are not interested in Rya’s questline.
- Tower of Return
If you are interested in visiting the Royal Capital, Leyndell, use the chest that’s on the top of the tower in Weeping Peninsula. Make your way through the enemies and open the chest which sends you to the Divine Tower of Leyndell. However, there’s not much you can do here as the area is locked, except for collecting the Talisman from the chest by defeating the Golem.
These were all the traps that you can easily avoid if you don’t want to rush into a high-level area at the beginning of the game. Now, check out the teleporters that lead you to new areas that are safe or have a site of grace to unlock.
