Fans ‘Flabbergasted’ by Jason Derulo’s ‘Operatic’ Concert Performance

Jason Derulo stunned fans this week with an “operatic” performance of his 2018 hit single, “Goodbye.”

A video of the live performance was posted to TikTok on Tuesday by Sus (@susannaeallreddd), who wrote: “Soooo in case you didn’t know, Jason Derulo is classically trained in opera. I hope this ends up on your fyp [for you page].”

The post has amassed over 2.2 million views and thousands of comments from fans, many of whom were shocked to learn the pop performer could sing operatically. However, Derulo hasn’t shied away from showing off this not-so-hidden vocal talent of his throughout the years.

In 2015, for example, the “Savage Love” singer—who graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy—reportedly performed “Wheels of a Dream” from the Broadway show Ragtime during a Carpool Karaoke session with James Corden.

A few years later, following a live performance of Andrea Bocelli’s “Time To Say Goodbye” at the 2018 MTV European Music Awards, Derulo tweeted: “This is a side of me that’s been burning within for a long time. I was trained classically (operatically) & have sang [sic] classical music since I can remember…Should I do a classical project one day?”

Though a classical project has yet to be released, Derulo did get the chance to flex more of his operatic talents as Rum Tum Tugger in Tom Hooper’s Cats.

Despite all this, however, Sus and her friend were still stunned by Derulo’s latest performance.

In the nine-second clip, the crowd cheers as Derulo sings his dramatic rendition of “Goodnight.”

“Just stay with me for the night,” Derulo sang. “I need you, I need you tonight.”

As Derulo continues, Sus’s friend simply stares with her mouth agape.

“When I tell you we were FLABBERGASTED when he started singing opera at the concert,” the video’s text overlay read.

But Sus and her friends weren’t the only fans left speechless. As previously mentioned, hundreds of viewers were also shocked by the performance.

“This was such a shocker,” said marianna.

“Jason channeled Andrea that night,” wrote anxiousangelina.

“I was going to comment something but I’m literally just flabbergasted that I have no words to form my feelings,” shared Zoe.

Chandler Gufflyr added: “Jason Derulo singing opera was not on my 2022 bingo card.”

Newsweek reached out to Sus for comment.

In January, a video emerged of Derulo getting into a brawl with two people in Las Vegas after one of them called him “Usher.” And last year, ahead of the 2021 Met Gala, a viral meme purporting to show Derulo falling down the Met stairs circulated online.
